UK Redundancy Calculator is a free, independent tool designed to help UK employees understand their statutory redundancy entitlement. Whether you're facing compulsory redundancy, considering a voluntary offer, or simply want to understand your rights, our calculator provides clear, accurate estimates based on the latest published statutory rates.
What We Do
Our calculator applies the official UK statutory redundancy formula — the same method used by ACAS and gov.uk — to your specific circumstances. You enter your date of birth, employment start date, expected redundancy date, and weekly gross pay, and the calculator works through each year of service, applying the correct age-based multiplier and the statutory weekly pay cap. The result is a detailed year-by-year breakdown of your entitlement, along with tax treatment information and notice period guidance.
We also provide three calculation modes: Statutory (the legal minimum), Enhanced (to compare an employer's offer against the minimum), and Notice Period (to understand your notice entitlement). Results can be exported as a professional PDF for your records.
Our Methodology
All rates and thresholds are sourced directly from UK government publications. For the 2025/26 tax year, we use a weekly pay cap of £643, age-based multipliers of 0.5× (under 22), 1.0× (22–40), and 1.5× (41+), a maximum of 20 years of service, and a minimum qualifying period of 2 years' continuous employment.
These figures are updated at the start of each tax year when the government publishes new rates. Our calculation logic follows the same backwards-from-redundancy-date approach used in the official gov.uk calculator. We test our results against known examples to ensure accuracy.
Privacy
Your privacy is fundamental to how this tool works. All calculations happen entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your salary, dates of birth, employment details, and calculation results are never transmitted to our servers or any third party. If you choose to save your inputs, they are stored in your browser's local storage on your device only — we have no access to this data.
We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit the site and which pages are most useful. This helps us prioritise improvements. We also display ads through Google AdSense to cover hosting costs. Neither Google Analytics nor AdSense has access to the data you enter into the calculator.
What This Tool Is Not
This calculator provides estimates based on statutory rates. It is not legal advice, financial advice, or a substitute for professional guidance. Individual circumstances — such as breaks in service, TUPE transfers, contractual terms, or disputes about the reason for dismissal — can affect your actual entitlement in ways that a calculator cannot account for.
If you are facing redundancy and need specific advice, we recommend contacting:
- ACAS (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) — free, impartial advice on workplace disputes
- Citizens Advice — free guidance on employment rights
- A qualified employment solicitor — for specific legal advice about your situation
